This is a chapel in Church of St Mary of the Angels, designed by the WOHA Architects.
It becomes a big "lantern" when the whole building is lighted up at night. The interior light flickers through the timber panels and it seems like it is floating.
Rules applied:
Leading Lines
Using the cross as the guideline to lead the viewer's up to the infinity sky which also shows a kind of respect to Jesus Christ.
Rhythm
The randomness of the small little openings creates a rhythmic lightness of the building
This is a transitional space in the church.
It connects people who come from the outside to this semi-enclosed shelter space and make their way to the hall for prayers, entrance being right at the end of the transition space.
It mentality calms down the soul of fellow prayer mates before they enter the holy space.
Interesting light effects and shadow cast on the ceiling and at the side of the columns gives it a very homely and warmly feeling.
Rules appiled:
Leading Lines
The grove lines of the tiles on floor and the columns lead our attention towards the entrance of the hall.
